At the Thursday 7am committee meeting at the PDA building behind Syringa, Jennifer Swindell asked for parents help. She would like as much input as possible before their next meeting, which will be Tuesday the 26Th. She would like to know what colors and style of shirt and pants we want.
Our committee discussed letting each elementary be in line with their own colors and give principals the discretion of allowing certain logo t-shirts, sweatshirts and occasional casual days.
There were eight parents that attended the meeting Thursday night. The ideas we had so far are as follows:
Shirt Colors: navy blue, tan, gray, white, purple, yellow, the entire spectrum of green.
Shirt Styles: crew neck, polo, mock turtleneck (undershirts will need to be tucked in, no layering).
Pants Color: slacks: black, khaki, gray
Pants Style: , slacks, 5pocket straight jeans indigo color (no bag, no sag) (no skinny pants)
Belt: If you wear a belt, solid brown and black
Shorts Styles: No cargo shorts, 3" above the knee
Next meeting will be held on June 4TH at Lewis and Clark Elementary at 7PM.

I believe discipline begins at home.
ReplyDeleteMy child is hyper active and I do not believe a collard shirt will curb his behavior.
Consistency and structure are what I have found to create a good learning environment for him.
If my child were a middle grade or high school student I would be more than willing to dress my child in a uniform. I believe that these age groups are very impressionable to what they see and hear and will continually be pressured to conform to what their peers are doing.
My concern is that the school district wants to impose a uniform for elementary students. These age groups are 5 year olds to 11 year olds. Children in every sense of the word. Shameless to point out a stranger who is smoking or immodest, and not to discreetly most of the time.
As a parent I would like to see the district to put there focuses where they are most needed when it comes to this issue. I believe that there is a time and a season for everything.
As a parent I feel that I had very limited information about the topic of the uniform and realized that I must become proactive if I wanted to stay informed. Not only about the uniforms but this has opened a door to the Caldwell school district and all of it's workings. I have not been pleased with the things I have been learning about it either. I would encourage all parents to open there eyes and get involved to change the way this school district is conducting business. United we stand as parents and have a responsibility to our children to be their advocate.
As regards to the economy, I do not believe that this is not the season to rock the boat and start changing the dress code, that targets the family's pocketbook. This is not the time.
As I understand if the district imposes a true uniform that the district will be required to fund them. The district does not have money to do this either.
